Dendrometer for measuring vertical changes – DV

The DV dendrometer is designed for precise and continuous measurement of vertical changes in the dimensions and/or curvature of trees. This device is suitable for long-term use in outdoor environments. With extremely low power consumption, Ecomatik dendrometers are ideal for battery-powered solutions, such as IoT applications. Dendrometer for measuring vertical changes is specific and high quality dendrometer.

Functionality

The DV dendrometer is specifically designed to monitor vertical changes (not growth) in trees. The trunks and corresponding tree parts adjust their length and curvature due to various factors, including:

  • Water status (short to medium term)
  • Wind direction and speed (short-term to permanent)
  • Snow and fruit load (medium to permanent)
  • Unbalanced growth or loss of crown parts (long-term to permanent)

Monitoring vertical changes, along with directional information, provides valuable insights for assessing the water status and static properties of the tree (stress-strain relationship, mechanical load/stability, etc.). Complete monitoring of vertical changes requires parallel measurements using three dendrometers, each oriented in different cardinal directions.

Advantages
🌟 Key Features

  • Calculation of stress-strain relationships
  • Maximum stability against wind, snow, falling branches, and fruit
  • Ideal for long-term measurements

⚠️ Limitations

  • Installation involves drilling and inserting anchor screws, which may damage the tree trunk (this can be minimized by using resin to seal wounds).
  • Suitable only for diameters > 8 cm
